HOPES (Higher and Further Education Opportunities and Perspectives for Syrians) is a project funded by the European Union’s Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis - THE MADAD FUND. It aims at significantly improving the situation of Syrian refugees of post-secondary age and preparing them for the re-building of their home land.
Beside other activities HOPES offers scholarships for Syrian refugees to Turkey for bachelor and master degrees at Turkish universities. To make these efforts most effective HOPES has concluded a partnership with UNHCR and YTB seeing itself in a complementary role to UNHCR’s DAFI programme.
(For all details concerning nature of studies, allowances, eligibility, language requirements, selection procedures, reasons for the termination of scholarships etc. please see the announcement of the DAFI scholarships, §§ 3-8)
Very soon a HOPES counsellor will be available in Ankara to provide information on higher education opportunities for Syrian refugees in Turkey and to guide applicants through the application process. HOPES will also provide supervision and counselling for its scholarship holders during their studies.
The most important criteria applied in the selection of scholarship holders are academic ability and protection needs.
The value of the scholarship will be identical to those offered by UNHCR and YTB.
